Udo Quellmalz is the most successful lightweight judoka produced by the West. Between 1989 and 1996 he returned from every World Championships and Olympic Games with a medal, culminating in gold medals at the 1991 and 1995 World Championships and 1996 Olympics in Atlanta.

Quellmalz is a master of both Newaza and Tachi-waza. In this DVD he shows his unique techniques, tactical skills and special grips. All are first demonstrated in a studio at full speed, followed by slow motion replays from multiple angles. They are then illustrated with numerous competition examples from Quellmalz in German, European and World Championships, and all five of his victories in the 1996 Olympics.

Master Meng studied martial arts all over the Orient. He started his martial arts training in Hong Kong (1970-Judo). He began broadening his skills and knowledge with Tae Kwon Do training in 1974 under Grand Master Y.C. Kim (9th Dan, WTF) in the United States. Additional Tae Kwon Do training included Grand Master K. J. Park, former Head Judge at the Kuk Ki Won, the Korean Headquarters for Tae Kwon Do. He has enjoyed the privilege of studying under several famous Kung Fu Grand Masters from various styles. Beginning in 1981, Benny Meng embarked on an extended study of martial arts that took him to: Hong Kong (1981-Tai Chi Mantis & Ving Tsun) Mainland China (1983-Shaolin Temple and Sichuan Sports University), Korea (1985-Tae Kwon Do with the Korean National Team) and Taiwan (1985-Shaolin, Chi Kung).
Benny Meng began his Wing Chun Kung Fu training in Hong Kong in 1982 under the movie star Sifu Lee Hoi Sang, a student of Jiu Wan. Jiu Wan had completed training in the Wing Chun system through Chan Yiu Min in China prior to beginning his training with Yip Man. Chan Yiu Min was the son of Chan Wah Shun, the first teacher of Yip Man. Benny Meng’s training under Lee Hoi Sang was interrupted after 1½ years of intense study by his return to the United States. He resumed full time training under Sifu Moy Yat in New York City in 1985. He officially started teaching Wing Chun in 1987.

Shurikenjutsu is a general term describing the traditional Japanese martial arts of throwing shuriken, which are small, hand-held weapons used primarily by the Shinobi or "Ninja" in Feudal Japan, such as metal spikes bo shuriken, circular plates of metal known as hira shuriken, and knives (tanto). Shurikenjutsu was usually taught among the sogo-bugei, or comprehensive martial arts systems of Japan, mostly in Ninjutsu, as a supplemental art to those more commonly practiced such as kenjutsu, sojutsu, bojutsu and kumi-uchi (battlefield grappling) or jujutsu, and is much less prevalent today than it was in the feudal era.
The Meifu Shinkage-ryu is a modern school of Shurikenjutsu. It was founded by Dr.Chikatoshi Someya in the 1970s. Someya was a student of Yoshio Sugino of the Katori Shinto-ryu, although the throwing style used in Meifu Shinkage-ryu is different. Someya refined the Katori style of throwing, making it shorter, faster and more concealed.
The Meifu Shinkage-ryu is a small school of about 30 students who train in Tokyo, Japan under the instruction of the present Soke, Yasuyuki Otsuka. It should be noted that this school is almost entirely composed of students of other martial arts schools. Otsuka welcomes students from any art or country. He calls himself a "shuriken teacher and researcher". There is a specific kind of shuriken called a Meifu Shinkage-ryu shuriken, but Otsuka teaches and students will often practice throwing shuriken from many different schools, most of which are now extinct

The principle of attacking on the enemy's flank has been employed in warfare for as long as war has been fought. Vast armies attack in formation from the flank, as main artillery engages frontal. The predatory behaviour depicted by a pair of muggers in the street will often employ the pincer approach where one subject will distract frontal as the other suckers the unsuspecting target from the flank. The tactic of "In-Quartata" from fencing employs flanking from an offensively-defensive perspective, where one combatant will move out of line from an oncoming assault whilst simultaneously attacking on the flank.
This DVD looks at cultivating this Combative Principle for effective use within a close range hand-to-hand confrontation. Here, we chunk the whole principle down and back up into an immediately usable Combative skill-set. We work everything from footwork and hand positioning, to clearing an obstruction, dealing with an active guard or fence, then on to attacking from a flanked position - employing everything from ballistic impact to subject control and takedowns.
We also look at flanking to "zero pressure" (a term from Filipino MA) from one of the most difficult knife attacks - the "grab and stab". Finally, we look at the employment of flanking as we actually strike in order to maximise IMPACT whilst staying non-telegraphic.
To picture this principle in action, think of the following two film examples that you may have come across. First, the movie "Snatch", when the pikey boxer flanks "In-Quartata" the oncoming meathead, smashing him into unconsciousness with a beautiful straight right on the button of the chin. Or the more mystical depiction from the movie "Troy" when Achilles runs at his monstrous opponent, dodging his spears, then closes with a flanking jump as he drives his shortsword deep down into the sub clavicle of his enemy for a single finishing blow.
