"Bad Brahma Bull"

"Bad Brahma Bull"
I was snappin' out broncs at the Old Flyin' U
At forty a month a plum good buckaroo
Well, the boss comes around and he says, hey my lad
Well, you look pretty good ridin' horses that's bad

You see, I ain't got no more outlaws to break
But I'll buy you a ticket and I'll give you a stake
At ridin' them bad ones, well, you ain't slow
And you might do some good at the big rodeo

While they're puttin' the bull in the chute
I'm strappin' my spurs to the heels of my boots
I looks that bull over and to my surprise
Well, he's a foot and a half in between his two eyes

On top of his shoulders, he's got a big hump
[Incomprehensible]
I lands in his middle and I lets out a scream
He comes out with a beller and the rest is a dream

Well, he jumps to the left and he lands towards the right
But I ain't no green horn, I'm still sittin' tight
The dust starts to foggin' right out of his skin
He's a wavin' them horns right under my chin

At sunnin' his belly, he couldn't be beat
He's a showin' the buzzards the soles of his feet
He's a dippin' so low that my boots filled with dirt
He's a makin' a whip of the tail of my shirt

He's a snappin' the buttons right off of my clothes
He's a buckin' and a bawlin' and a blowin' his nose
The crowd starts to cheerin' both me and that bull
Well, he needed no help but I had my hands full

Then he goes to fence rowin' and weavin' behind
My head went poppin', I sorta went blind
He starts in high divin', I lets out a groan
We went up together but he come back alone

Up high I turns over and below I can see
He's a pawin' up dirt just a waitin' for me
I can picture a grave and a big slab of wood
Sayin' here lies a twister who thought he was good

I notices somethin' don't seem can be true
But the brand on his hip was a Big Flyin' U
When I landed, he charged but I got enough sense
So I ran that old bull to the hole in the fence

I dives through that hole and I want you to know
I ain't goin' back to no big rodeo
At a straddlin' them Brahmas, you can bet I'm all through
I'm sore footin' it back to the Old Flyin' U

"Cowboys Ain't Easy To Love"

"Cowboys Ain't Easy To Love"
I know I hurt you but I never meant to
It's you that I'm fondest of
I know you need me but I must be free
Cowboys ain't easy to love

Somethings that I do, I know don't please you
My ways are rowdy and rough
Don't try to change me, you can't rearrange me
Cowboys ain't easy to love

Somewhere tonight in the rain and the wind
I'll be searching for something and dreaming again
Chasin' a rainbow that has no end
Cowboys ain't easy to love

The bright lights may blind me and sometimes I can't see
Just how much I need your love
Lord it ain't easy but I'd die if you leave me
Cowboys ain't easy to love

Somewhere tonight in the rain and the wind
I'll be searching for something and dreaming again
Chasin' a rainbow that has no end
Cowboys ain't easy to love

Somewhere tonight in the rain and the wind
I'll be searching for something and dreaming again
Chasin' a rainbow that has no end
Cowboys ain't easy to love

Somewhere tonight in the rain and the wind
I'll be searching for something and dreaming again
Chasin' a rainbow that has no end
Cowboys ain't easy to love

"Silence On The Line"

"Silence On The Line"
Took my last fall in San Diego
Bus headed north one headed south
I call a farm in Colorado
And I lift a dusty pay phone to my mouth

She says hello I say it's me hon
Sorry I stayed away so long
Tell the kids thier old man's through with playin' rodeo
Cause if it's alright with you I'm comin' home

Well there's silence on the line
She says you sure did take your time
But I still need a man for the things a man is good for
You know how it is raisin' crops and raisin' kids
Demands a man at least as fit as you are
So come on git on home there's hay that needs a mowin'
A boy that needs a whippin' and a hundred things to do
I hope you've finally found your mind
To leave that rodeo behind
I've spent half my life just waitin' here for you

I guess that nows the time I'd better tell her
Hon I've got this old friend that's here with me
He used to be a cowboy and a good one so they say
But now his legs are crippled he can't walk you see
But hon you ought to hear him tell his stories
Sing the old songs play the guitar too
I'd really like to show him Colorado
But I thought I'd better leave it up to you

Well there's silence on the line
And now I hear her sayin'
Babe I only need a man for the things a man is good for
And you know how it is a place just half this big
Demands a man at least as fit as you are
Put yourself in his place it'd awful hard to face
All the chores and work and nothing he could do
If you want to know my mind leave that rodeo bum behind
Don't waste our time I'm waitin' here for you

Well cryin's just for kids I put down the phone
Fumble with my crutches movin' slow
I wish that I was on the bus that's Colorado bound
And I hope the weather's nice in Mexico

"Weekend Country Cowboy"

"Weekend Country Cowboy"He works down at the factory
'Til that Friday whistle blows
It's time to change the music
Like his workin' clothes
And leather boots and Levis
And a practice southern drawl
He's headed to a honky-tonk
He's gonna have a bawl

[CHORUS:]
Weekend country cowboy
Out to find a faded rose
And waltz around the dance floor
Before the bar rooms close
In the neon moonlight
On a smokey hardwood range
The weekend country cowboys
In the saddle once again

He looks those angels over
With his best Merle Haggard stare
He knows that heavens waitin'
Under Dolly Parton hair
So to those Texas fiddles
And let the music start
For all you nine to fivers
With some cowboy in your heart

[CHORUS]

He's just a

[CHORUS to fade]

"Bars Shouldn't Have Mirrors"

"Bars Shouldn't Have Mirrors"
Boots and a buckle jukebox and a bottle
Old rodeo cowboy its part of the draw
He dreams of tomorrow winnin' the next show
Till he looks in the mirror that hangs on the wall
There's a weathered old face like leather its aged
With scars you can trace that run down to his soul
The mirror can't hide what the drinks will disguise
There's a rodeo cowboy that's gettin' too old
Bars shouldn't have mirrors who wants to see the real thing
Bars shouldn't have mirrors is that cowboy I'm lookin' at there really me

But he'll tell all his stories live over past glories
Will the whisky will make him a winner again
But every drink that is raised he'll see his face
Cause the bottles just a mirror he holds in his hand
Bars shouldn't have mirrors...

"Round And Round She Goes"

"Round And Round She Goes"
On a cold montana morning
On the road to idaho
I watched her order hot and black to go.
And her boots and spurs and blue jeans
And the lonely in her eyes
Told me just how much she loved the rodeos.

I asked where she was headin',
She said, the boise show.
She took a third in butte just yesterday.
No, she never has been married,
And she probably never will,
'cause silver buckle dreams
Don't leave time for standing still.

[Chorus:]
Round and round and round she goes
Where she stops nobody knows.
The miles are gettin' longer,
The nights they never end.
Old rodeos and livestock shows

Keep the lady on the go.
Lord, she loves to run those barrels,
And it's the only life she knows.

For now on fifteen seasons
The circuit's been her home,
And at times she misses kids she never had.
But she wouldn't trade a minute
Of the years that she's got in it,
'cause she's had herself some happy,
She's learned to take the sad.
When I looked up from my coffee
I saw boise on her mind,
She had that look of leavin' in her eyes.
As she drove into the morning
It slowly dawned on me
How hard it is to tell a dream goodbye

Round and round and round she goes
Where she stops nobody knows.
The miles are gettin' longer,
The nights they never end.
Old rodeos and livestock shows

Lord, she loves to run those barrels,
And it's the only life she knows.

"Tennessee Stud"

"Tennessee Stud"
Along about eighteen twenty five I left Tennessee very much alive
I never would have forded the Arkansas mud
If I hadn't been a riding on the Tennessee Stud
I had a little trouble with my sweetheart's pa
And one of her brothers was a bad outlaw
I sent her a letter by my Uncle Fudd
Then I rode away on the Tennessee Stud
The Tennessee stud was long and lean mean
The color of the sun and his eyes were green
He had the nerve and he had the blood
And there never was a horse like the Tennessee stud

We drifted on down into no man's land
We crossed the river called the Rio Grande
I raced my horse with a Spaniard's foal
Til I got me a skin full of silver and gold
Me and a gambler we couldn't agree
We got in a fight over Tennessee
We jerked our guns and he fell with a thud
And I got away on the Tennessee Stud
Well I got just as lonesome as a man can be
Dreaming of my girl in Tennessee
The Tennessee Stud's green eyes turned blue
Cause he was a dreaming of his sweetheart too
We loped right back across Arkansas
I whupped her brother and I whupped her pa
When I found that girl with the golden hair
And she was a riding on the Tennessee Mare
The Tennessee stud was long...

Stirrup to stirrup and side by side
We crossed the mountains and the valleys wide
We came to Big Muddy then forded the flood
On the Tennessee Mare and the Tennessee Stud
Pretty little baby on the cabin floor
A little horse colt playing round the door
I love that girl with the golden hair
And the Tennessee Stud loves the Tennessee Mare
The Tennessee stud was long...

"Hoka Hey, Lakota's"

"Hoka Hey, Lakota's"
Come listen while I tell you the story
Of a battle that happened years ago
Where brave men fought and died for their people
Where the waters of the Little Big Horn flow

For many years the Indian fought the White Man
I guess they knew the end was growin' near
But this time they would show the Whites forever
What it meant to be an Indian warrior

That mornin' General Custer came a marchin'
From the south with his 600 men
He planned to catch the Indians a sleepin'
He didn't know he wouldn't live to fight again

Hoka Hey, Lakotas, It's a good day to die

Sittin' Bull made medicine on the mountain
While Crazy Horse got ready for the fight
Some 2,000 braves, Sioux and Cheyenne
Prepared for their battle with the whites

The scouts for General Custer tried to warn him
To wait for soldiers comin' any day
But Custer didn't want to share the glory
He thought the Indians might just get away

At noon Custer gave his final order
And the're beneath that blue Montana sky
From outa nowhere came the hordes of Redmen
And as they charged he heard their battle cry

Hoka Hey, Lakotas, It's a good day to die

The quiet of the day had now been shattered
The air filled with arrows, smoke and lead
The bloody battle lasted just one hour
Custer and his soldiers all lay dead

Now the wind still blows across the prairie
The seasons they come and they go
But this the Redman's Day of Glory
We will all remember ever more

Yes we recall that famous day of glory
The Battle of the Little Big Horn

Hoka Hey, Lakotas, It's a good day to die

"The Blizzard"

"The Blizzard"

There's a blizzard comin' on how I'm wishin' I was home
For my pony's lame and he can't hardly stand
Listen to that Norther sigh if we don't get home we'll die
But it's only seven miles to Mary Ann only seven miles to Mary Ann

You can bet we're on her mind cause it's nearly suppertime
And I'll bet there's hot biscuits in the pan
Lord my hands feel like their froze there's a numbness in my toes
But there's only five more miles to Mary Ann only five more miles to Mary Ann

That wind's howlin' and it seems Mighty like a woman's screams
We best be movin' faster if we can
Dan just think about that barn with that hay so soft an warm
It's only three more miles to Mary Ann it's only three more miles to Mary Ann

Dan get up you ornery cuss or you'll be the death of us
Well I'm so weary but I'll help ya if I can
Well all right Dan perhaps it's best that we stop a while and rest
We're still a hundred yards from Mary Ann it's still a hundred yards to Mary Ann
Well late that night the storm was gone and they found him there at dawn
Well he'd a made it but he just couldn't leave old Dan
Yes they found him there on the plains with his hands froze to the reins
He was just a hundred yards from Mary Ann
He was just a hundred yards from Mary Ann

"The Old Timer"

"The Old Timer"

I saw the old timer as he stepped in the tavern
His faded old Sterson had seen better years
He limped to the bar and he sat down beside me
Layed out his dollar and bought him a beer.

He siped from the bottle, and he told me the stories
How he used to ride in days long ago
In his eyes I could see he was livin' old memories
Ridin' the broncs at the old rodeos.

[CHORUS:]
And he dreams of the days that are now gone forever
The scars on his body is all he can show
For the life time he lived riding' wild horses
But he's just an old timer that nobody knows.

Then he hung his grey head, and the tears started flowin'
He said, son, it was great, but it ended too soon
No I'm just an old man with bothin' but memories
Drinkin' my beer in this back street saloon

He spoke of a woman, and she was a beauty
Her love was as true as the stars in the sky
And oh how he wished he'd quit all his ramblin'
Bought her a diamond and made her his wife

[CHORUS]
