"White Bones Of Allende"

"White Bones Of Allende"

You are flying to Vienna, you have phones aboard your airplanes
Sit at oaken tables and speak in solemn tones
While the leaders of all nations keep a deep respectful silence
You're moving pawns and bishops made of flesh and blood and bone

But the white bones of Allende and the scattered bones of Chile
Are the scream that breaks the silence of the thousands blown away
Oh, the white bones of Allende and the scattered bones of Chile
Are not silent, they are screaming, they're your Peace Prize, Doctor K

While you banter with reporters, while you charm your fellow diners
While you dance with wives of princes, while you rest from cares of state
There are thousands in the prisons, there are widows numb with sorrow
There are graves unmarked and hidden, there are ghosts outside your gate

And the white bones of Allende and the scattered bones of Chile
Are the scream that breaks the silence of the thousands blown away
Oh, the white bones of Allende and the scattered bones of Chile
Are not silent, they are screaming, they're your Peace Prize, Doctor K

For it's Kissinger in China, oh, it's Kissinger in Cairo
and it’s Kissinger at NATO in the grand old power game
But the white bones of Allende tell another darker story
For you never got to Chile, but you killed it just the same

And the white bones of Allende and the scattered bones of Chile
Are the scream that breaks the silence of the thousands blown away
Oh, the white bones of Allende and the scattered bones of Chile
Are not silent, they are screaming, they're your Peace Prize, Doctor K

"Who Will Feed The People?"

"Who Will Feed The People?"

If they take away my farm
If they pull me off the plough
Tell me, who will feed the people
Hell, the banker don’t know how
It’s all pages in a mystery
That he’ll never understand
Tell me, who will feed the people
If they put me off my land
If they call in all my loans
If they call the auctioneer
Tell me, who will bring the crops in
With no farm folks living here
Will the banker run the combine
Will the agent bale the hay
Tell me, who will feed the people
If they take my farm away
When my great-granddaddy Jakob
Ninety-seven years ago
Broke this sod behind two oxen
Broke his back to make it grow
Taught his sons by his example
As they taught their sons in turn
What this topsoil had to teach him
Great-granddaddy tried to learn
If they put us on the road
If they tell us we must go
Who will come to take our places
Who’ll know half the things we know
Who’ll know every inch of topsoil
As it trickles through the hand
Tell me, who will feed the people
If they put me off my land
When my great-granddaddy Jakob
Ninety-seven years ago
Broke this sod behind two oxen
Broke his back to make it grow
Taught his sons by his example
As they taught their sons in turn
What this topsoil had to teach him
Great-granddaddy tried to learn
If they take away my farm
If they pull me off the plough
Tell me, who will feed the people
Hell, the banker don’t know how
It’s all pages in a mystery
That he’ll never understand
Tell me, who will feed the people
If they put me off my land
It’s all pages in a mystery
That he’ll never understand
Tell me, who would feed the people
If they put me off my land

"Willie Seton"

"Willie Seton"

Willie Seton was a lad
His age was just sixteen
Golden curls run down his neck
The fairest ever seen

His true love was the prettiest thing
In the countryside
And after Willie courted her
She swore to be his bride

He had no gold to give her dad
No gold to buy them land
And in his haste to wed his love
He joined an outlaw band

They ravaged all the countryside
Their fortunes for to gain
Until one cold and frosty day
They robbed the Frisco train

The train guard lost his life that day
But just before he died
He fired a deadly pistol ball
In Willie Seton's side

His comrades they deserted him
And left him there alone
And holding tightly to his side
He started out for home

He had not traveled many a mile
Until the storm came on
And Willie Seton found a log
To set himself upon

He leaned his back against a tree
And held onto his side
And in that cold and snowy wood
Young Willie Seton died

He was sixteen when he loved
Sixteen when he cried
Sixteen when he robbed a train
And sixteen when he died

"Winter Song"

"Winter Song"

Listen to the wind blow
All the way from Canada, the weather man explains
That’s why we got all this snow instead of a lot of rain
Need to get your warm clothes on if you gonna go skating on the pond
Didn’t I tell you so
Listen to the wind blow
Listen to the trees sigh
Standing in the freezin’ wind and feeling the old year die
Catching the winter’s chilly kiss in the grey and the lowering sky
Better check there’s kindling in the box, put on two pair of good warm socks
No need to ask me why
Listen to the trees sigh
It always catches me unawares
Frost on the redwood picnic chairs
Birds I’m used to seeing fly away
The child within me starts to glow
When the air begins to taste of snow
And I dream my crazy dream of a one-horse sleigh
Listen to the bells ring
Up and down the snowy hill attached to wooden sleds
Bells on woollen mittens, bells on goggled, woollen heads
You wanna take a laughing spill, try your luck on a snowy hill
Wanna hear winter sing
Listen to the bells ring
It always catches me unawares
Frost on the redwood picnic chairs
Birds I’m used to seeing fly away
The child within me starts to glow
When the air begins to taste of snow
And I dream my crazy dream of a one-horse sleigh
Listen to the bells ring
Up and down the snowy hill attached to wooden sleds
Bells on woollen mittens, bells on goggled, woollen heads
You wanna take a laughing spill, try your luck on a snowy hill
Wanna hear winter sing
Listen to the bells ring
Wanna hear winter sing
Listen to the bells ring

"Wish I Had A Troubadour"

"Wish I Had A Troubadour"

Wish I had a troubadour a-sittin' by my knee,
Playing stately rhythms of the ancient balladry.
If I had a troubadour, I'd signal with my hand
And he would sing for you.
He would sing for you until you'd smile.

[Chorus:]
Wish I had a wind I'd bring it by.
A gentle western wind to dry your eye.
A southern wind to keep you from your cryin',
I'm still tryin'.

Wish I had a castle clown with bells upon his hat,
Doin' tricks and somersaults, you'd have to laugh at that.
If I had a castle clown, I'd call him to your side,
And he'd do tricks for you.
He'd do tricks for you until you'd smile.

[Chorus]

Wish I had a Royal Ballet, to summon at my will.
Dancin' by the candlelight, some lovely old quadrille.
If I had a Royal Ballet I'd signal with a nod,
And they would dance for you,
They would dance for you until you'd smile.

[Chorus]

[Repeat Verse 1]

"You Are Love"

"You Are Love"

You are the light in children's eyes
You are the hope that never dies
You are all the best in me
And you forgive the rest in me

You are courage wrapped in grace
You are victory's laughing face
You are Noah's returning dove
You are love

You are the welcome kiss of peace
You are the joy of sweet release
You are the mischievous at play
You are the end of summer's day

You are the soul who is my soul
You are the half that makes me whole
You are Noah's returning dove
You are love

Once the only word I knew was I, I, I
Nothing mattered but myself alone
Still a voice within me whispered why? Why? Why?
Why must you keep struggling on your own?
What an endless hill I tried to climb
When you were there to help me all the time

You are the garden where I walk
You are the quiet while I talk
You are the comforting caress
You are the end of emptiness

You are the joy I longed to know
You are the flower in the snow
You are Noah's returning dove
You are love

Once the only word I knew was I, I, I
Nothing mattered but myself alone
Still a voice within me whispered why? Why? Why?
Why must you keep struggling on your own?
What an endless hill I tried to climb
When you were there to help me all the time

You are the garden where I walk
You are the quiet while I talk
You are the comforting caress
You are the end of emptiness

You are the joy I longed to know
You are the flower in the snow
You are Noah's returning dove
You are love
You are Noah's returning dove
You are love

"You Came Throwing Colors"

"You Came Throwing Colors"

You came throwing colours
All around my blacks and greys
While I stood in wonder you just opened up my days
Let me tell you what you did to me
I wanna shout the news
You came throwing colours 'round my blues
You came throwing colours 'round my blues
Makes me wonder how I got
The way I used to be
Something in my head
Just simply made a mess of me
Then you told me love was possible
And you told me I was free
You came throwing colours 'round my blues
You came throwing colours
All around my blacks and greys
While I stood in wonder you just opened up my days
Let me tell you what you did to me
I wanna shout the news
You came throwing colours 'round my blues
You came throwing colours 'round my blues
Oh, I would sit for hours
Never noticing the sky
Chances came and went
You know, I let them scurry by
Then you told me love was possible
You made me want to try
You came throwing colours 'round my blues
Oh, you came throwing colours
All around my blacks and greys
While I stood in wonder you just opened up my days
Let me tell you what you did to me
I wanna shout the news
You came throwing colours 'round my blues
You came throwing colours 'round my blues
You came throwing colours 'round my blues
You came throwing colours 'round my blues

"You Can Eat Dog Food"

"You Can Eat Dog Food"

Quit your bellyachin', bub
Sayin' you can't afford your grub
Sayin' a dollar ain't a dollar no more
Well tell me buddy, what's new?
You can't afford to buy bread no more
Well, this ain't a charity store
You say your kids are hungry too
Well, we've good news for you

You can eat dog food
You really ought to try it
You can fricassee it
You can deep fry it
Flip it on over
Cook it any way
Eat along with rover
Three times a day

It comes in a bag or a can
Just the meal for a workin' man
If you're down on your luck just now
It'll get you through the day
If you eat in the afternoon
You're gonna feel like bayin' at the moon
But you're complainin' too soon
This is all I gotta say

You can eat dog food
You really ought to try it
You can fricassee it
You can deep fry it
Flip it on over
Cook it any way
Eat along with rover
Three times a day

Find yourself a little vacant lot
Clean the garbage from a little spot
Build a fire, let the coals get hot
Ask the neighbors in
You can open up a can or two
Make patties like the swell folks do
Have yourself a little barbecue
And let the fun begin

You can eat dog food
You really ought to try it
You can fricassee it
You can deep fry it
Flip it on over
Cook it any way
Eat along with rover
Three times a day

"You Should Have Seen Me Throw That Ball"

"You Should Have Seen Me Throw That Ball"

Bills come due
Write a cheque and send it through
Hope it clears
Haven’t cleared a cheque in years
I’d better flash that grin
It’s bound to win
Never misses when I turn it on
Though the kid’s getting old
What can you do
When it goes bad on you
You’d better run
Tell ‘em about the games you won
You should have seen me throw that ball
You should have seen me throw that ball
First and ten
Never run a play again
How’d I know
That was far as I would go
They’d buy me all my beer
They like to hear
How I fooled them I when I pulled my fake
They called me ‘Snake’
What can you do
When it goes bad on you
You’d better run
Tell ‘em about the games you won
You should have seen me throw that ball
You should have seen me throw that ball
I had it all
Why’d they have to drop the ball
Right on the nose
Bet I could have made the pros
I didn’t need my charm
When I had my arm
First and ten
Never run a play again
How’d I know
That was far as I would go
They’d buy me all my beer
They like to hear
How I fooled them I when I pulled my fake
They called me ‘Snake’
But what can you do
When it goes bad on you
You’d better run
Tell ‘em about the games you won
You should have seen me throw that ball
You should have seen me throw that ball
You should have seen me throw that ball
You should have seen me throw that ball

"You're So Beautiful"

"You're So Beautiful"

The room might be crowded, artfully dim
The faces all youthful, the bodies all slim
They all look alike, with nothing to say
Then you enter the room, and they all fade away
You’re so beautiful, beautiful
Loveliest woman a man ever knew
You’re so beautiful, beautiful
You’re nobody else but you
Your long auburn hair is descending in curls
Full-grown young woman, surrounded by girls
Deep in your eyes, I see traces of glee
Some secret you soon will be sharing with me
You’re so beautiful, beautiful
Loveliest woman a man ever knew
You’re so beautiful, beautiful
You’re nobody else but you
It’s always the same, every time you appear
I find myself saying, my lady is here
You’re wearing the blue dress that touches the floor
Everyone knows you’re lovely, I know so much more
You’re so beautiful, beautiful
Loveliest woman a man ever knew
You’re so beautiful, beautiful
You’re nobody else but you
Nobody else but you
