"Second Hand Satin Lady (And A Bargain Basement Boy)"

"Second Hand Satin Lady (And A Bargain Basement Boy)"

Well I bet we sure look shabby to the pryin' eyes of town
You in your tattered dungarees me in my hand me downs
All they see of you and me are the worn out clothes we wear
They don't see the rich love that we share

For a second hand satin lady and a bargain basement boy
You're my ragged angel I'm your shabby pride and joy
In your Salvation Army dress and me in my Goodwill shoes
Livin' proof that the hard times can be the good times too

That old junk store kitchen table well it's about to fall right down
The curtains you made sure fit quite well with that old stuffed chair we found
That old lumpy bed in the bedroom has the stuffin' showin' through
But it's heaven when I'm lyin' next to you

For a second hand satin lady and a bargain basement boy
You're my ragged angel I'm your shabby pride and joy
In your Salvation Army dress and me in my Goodwill shoes
Livin' proof that the hard times can be the good times too
Honey if I'm with you

We can see the crack in the ceilin' when we're lyin' here at night
Dreamin' our dreams together in the glare of the one bare light
But honey if the dreams we dream do or don't come true
I'm still gonna be right here to dream with you
I'll gladly go through the hardest times with you
Oh honey I can make it long as I got you

"Semi-Great Predictor"

"Semi-Great Predictor"

The man behind the grin had a weapon known as sin
And he called himself the Semi-Great Predictor
He would always try in vain to logically explain
Why Noah saved the Boa constrictor
Now Noah seems to think as they slowly near the brink
Of embarking in an oversized outrigger
That for law and order's sake we must preserve some snakes
It's a thousand years before we'll have the trigger

He's the Semi-Great Predictor self-appointed self-ordained
And he views the world with vision and with tact
He ponders human fate and then profoundly states
That infinity will take up all the slack
Ha ha ha ha ha

When the crowd began to beef and they stated disbelief
And finally policemen intervened
While poultry meat and bread rained down on the Predictor’s head
And they took him to the laundry to be cleaned
And somewhere in the scrubbing in the washing and the rubbing
There came a sudden eclipse of the sun
And the ground below us rumbled and above a giant grumbled
Blocking out the heavens with his gun

He's the Semi-Great Predictor self-appointed self-ordained...

And then a little child spoke to the giant and smiled
Said don't be a slave to deeds that others think
So the giant threw down his gun and joined in all the fun
Stood watching as the Great Predictor shrinked
Now in the lost and found you can hear the lonesome sound
Of the trigger with it's stubborn empty clicking
And no one will console the Predictor and his hold
Or swallow any dirt that he is kicking

He's the Semi-Great Predictor self-appointed self-ordained...

It's the other side of infinity boys and reeks with injustice
Dictate and covet my return
To the rivers of your consciousness
To the sanctuary of your mind
Ha ha ha ha ha

I could tell you everything
About the way us country lovers do our thing
And honey I could tell you everything
About the mountains and the country type of thing
Oh yes I could tell you everything
But what's the good of things that ain't no use
I only like to talk about me and you

(Semolita Semolita don't you know that I love you
Semolita Semolita no one's sweeter and it's true
You could be my everything) my countryside my rocky mountains too
(Semolita Semolita don't you know that I love you)

Love is like an evergreen
It always sparkles like a rocky mountain spring
And sometimes love can treat you just as mean
As that old honeybee that gets you with his sting
Oh yes I could tell you everything
But what's the good of things that ain't no use
I only like to talk about me and you

(Semolita Semolita don't you know that I love you...

"She Understands Me"

"She Understands Me"

She understands me and she cares how I feel
And she's always there to hold my hand
And somehow she just knows it when this old world's got me down
Yes she she understands her man

Cause we've seen the rain and the sunshine together
And many times she's watched me stumble and fall
And she's always there by my side when I need her
Through the good through the bad through it all

And oh how it hurts me when her dreams don't come true
When I can't give her all the things I planned
But it ain't always easy and she knows that's life
Thank God for my woman she understands

"She'd Rather Be Homeless"

"She'd Rather Be Homeless"

It was our 25th anniversary and I was watching the SuperBowl
When suddenly she started cursing me. Hell, I almost dropped my remote control
And she said "That's that" and grabbed her hat and headed out into the snow
And that was almost two long years ago

Now see her shuffling down the street, Combat boots on her dainty feet
She said all my friends were dumb, And she called me "Yuppee scum"
I see her sitting on her full length mink, And as I walk by she winks

Pushing her belongings in a cart from the A&P
She said she didn't give a damn 'bout my BMW or my AT&T

Saying "Spare some change for a lady, a lady who's finally free"
See her bumming cigarettes, On the sidewalk where she sits
She said to take these credit cards of mine, And stick'm whar the sun don't shine
She don't want my bonds and stocks, Living in her cardboard box
Lord, she'd rather be homeless, than here at home with me
Cause she'd rather be homeless, than here at home with me
Oh, she'd rather be homeless, than here at home with me

She'd rather be sleeping in some doorway, Than lolling in the lap of luxury
She'd rather eat soup down at the shelter Than at the C.C. sipping fine Chablis
And when the cold wind starts to blow, Lord, it hurts me so to know
And as I throw her a dime, Lord, it breaks this heart of mine to know
She'd rather be homeless, than here at home with me
She'd rather be homeless, than here at home with me

"She's Got The Gold Mine (I Got The Shaft)"

"She's Got The Gold Mine (I Got The Shaft)"

Well I guess it was back in '63
When eatin' my cookin' got the better of me
So I asked this little girl I was goin' with to be my wife

Well she said she would
So I said "I do"
But I'da said "I wouldn't"
If I'da just knew how sayin' "I do"
Was gonna screw up all of my life

Well the first few years weren't all that bad
I'll never forget the good times we had
Cause I'm reminded every month when I send her the child support

Well it wasn't too long till the lust all died
And I'll admit I wasn't too surprised
The day I come home and found my suitcase sittin' out on the porch

Well I tried to get in
She changed the lock
Then I found this note taped on the mailbox that said
"Goodbye turkey. My attorney will be in touch"

So I decided right then and there
I was gonna do what's right
Give 'er her fair share
But brother
I didn't know her share was gonna be that much

She got the goldmine (She got the goldmine)
I got the shaft (I got the shaft)
They split it right down the middle
And then they give her the better half
Well it all sounds sorta funny
But it hurts too much to laugh
She got the goldmine, I got the shaft

Now listen, you ain't heard nothin' yet
Why they give her the color televison set
Then they give her the house
The kids
And both of the cars

See?
Well then they started talkin' about child support
Alimony
And the costs to the court
Didn't take me long to figure out how far in the toilet I was

I'm tellin' ya they have made a mistake
Cause it adds up to more than this cowboy makes
Besides, everything I ever had worth takin' they've already took

While she's livin' like a queen
On alimony
I'm workin' two shifts
Eatin' baloney
Askin' myself, "Why didn't you just learn how to cook?"

They give her the goldmine, (She got the goldmine)
They give me the shaft (I got the shaft)
They said they're splittin' it all down the middle
But she got the better half
Well, it all sounds mighty funny
But it hurts too much to laugh
She got the goldmine, I got the shaft

Well, she got the goldmine, (She got the goldmine)
I got the shaft (I got the shaft)
They split it all down the middle
And then they give her the better half
Well, I guess it all sounds funny
But it hurts too much to laugh
She got the goldmine, I got the shaft

Heh, heh. Hey ain't kidding. I got the shaft
But I don't have to worry about totin' a billfold anymore
Ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha
I let my wife tote it, I'm gonna be carryin' food stamps
You get it judge?
I'm gonna be indebted
That's not funny, huh?
Huh?
Contempt of court?
What do you mean I'm
Listen judge, I'm just kiddin'
I mean
You can't get blood out of a turnip, can ya? (Ha ha ha)

"She's Ready For Someone To Love Her"

"She's Ready For Someone To Love Her"

Her heart has had more knocks
Than a gypsy's tambourine
Yet it's worth more gold
Than any man has ever seen

And although no one has fallen for her
Like she's fallen for them
She says her heart isn't broken
It's only broken in

She's ready for someone to love her
Someone to hold her tight
Some to curl up next to
When her feet get cold at night

She's weathered the whirlwind romance
Stood through the one-night stands
She's ready for someone to love her
Who'll be the lucky man

Well, she has had her fill
Of those unfulfilling men
You know the kind that come calling
Never to call back again

Oh, she's bound and determined
Not to be fooled anymore
And poor thing she'll keep that promise
The same way she kept it before

She's ready for someone to love her
Someone to hold her tight

Some to curl up next to
When her feet get cold at night

She's weathered the whirlwind romance
Stood through the one-night stands
She's ready for someone to love her
Who'll be the lucky man

She's ready for someone to love her
Someone to hold her tight
Some to curl up next to
When her feet get cold at night

She's weathered the whirlwind romance
Stood through the one-night stands
She's ready for someone to love her
Who'll be the lucky man

You know
She's ready for someone to love her

"Sitting On Top Of The World"

When my baby left me and she went away

Cause I'm sittin' up here on top of the world

The Mississippi River is deep and wide
That woman I love love is on the other side
Oh but now she's gone gone and I don't worry none
Cause I'm sittin' sittin' on top of the world

Mississippi River is deep and wide...

Well it was in the spring one sunny day...

"Sixteen Tons"

Son yeah now some people say a man is made outta mud
A poor man's made outta muscle and blood
Muscle and blood and skin and bone
A mind that's weak and a back that's strong

You load sixteen tons what do you get
Another day older and deeper in debt
St Peter don't call me cause I can't go
I owe my soul to the company store
I owe my soul I owe my soul to the company store

Well I was born one mornin' when the sun didn't shine
I picked up my shovel I walked to the mine
I loaded sixteen tons of No 9 coal
The store boss said son bless my soul

You load sixteen tons what do you get...

Well I was born one morning it was drizzlin' rain
Fighting and trouble that’s my middle name
I was raised in the woods by a mama lion
No hightoned woman make me walk the line

You load sixteen tons what do you get...

If you see me comin' better step aside
A lotta men didn't a lotta men died
One fist of iron the other one steel
If the right one don't get you son the left one will

I load sixteen tons what do you get...

"Smell The Flowers"

"Smell The Flowers"

Yesterdays oh how many do you wish you could relive
Turn the page and go back oh I wonder what you'd give
Looking back does it seem that when you planned and when you dreamed
You forgot the most important thing

Smell the flowers while the roses bloom
Take the time my friend and sing a happy tune
Oh how precious every mile so take a minute learn to smile
My friend let's stop a while and smell the flowers

Got a troubled mind friend did you let too much worry rule your days
You look back do you feel like something precious slipped away
Oh my friend are you the man that let the world slip through your hands
Can you remember when you smelled the flowers

Smell the flowers while the roses bloom
Take the time my friend and sing a happy tune
You won't have this day again cause every road has got to end
So don't forget my friend to smell the flowers

Smell the flowers while the roses bloom...
