Uninstall via Start menu
- Click the Windows Start icon, then select Control Panel.
- Follow option A or option B below according to your view:
- Option A (Default category view): Under Programs, click Uninstall a program.
- Option B (Large/small icons view): Click Programs and Features.
- Right-click Avast Free Antivirus, then select Uninstallfrom the drop-down menu.
- If prompted for permission by the User Account Control dialog, click Yes.
- When the Avast Free Antivirus Setup window appears, click Uninstall.
- Click Yesto confirm that you want to uninstall Avast Free Antivirus.
- Optionally, complete the customer survey and click Continue with survey, or select Skip the survey.
- Wait while the uninstaller removes Avast Free Antivirus from your PC.
- When the confirmation message appears, click Restart computerto immediately reboot your PC and complete uninstallation.
Avast Free Antivirus is now uninstalled from your PC. If you were unable to uninstall Avast Free Antivirus by following the steps above, refer to the Uninstall Tool section below.

If you experience issues trying to uninstall Avast Free Antivirus via the Start menu, we recommend using the
Avast Uninstall Tool to completely delete all Avast Free Antivirus files from your PC while Windows runs in
Safe Mode.

To uninstall Avast antivirus software from your computer, you can follow these general steps:
Step 1: Close any Avast-related programs or processes running in the background. You can do this by right-clicking the Avast icon in the system tray (usually located in the bottom-right corner of the screen) and selecting "Exit" or "Close".
Step 2: Open the Start menu and go to the "Control Panel" or search for "Control Panel" in the search bar and open it.
Step 3: In the Control Panel, select "Programs" or "Programs and Features" (depending on your version of Windows).
Step 4: In the list of installed programs, locate "Avast" and select it.
Step 5: Click on the "Uninstall" or "Change" button at the top of the program list. If prompted by the User Account Control (UAC), click "Yes" to proceed.
Step 6: Avast's uninstall wizard should open. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the uninstallation process. You may be asked to select a reason for uninstalling or to provide feedback, but these steps are optional.
Step 7: Once the uninstallation process is complete, restart your computer to ensure that any remaining Avast components are fully removed.
After restarting your computer, Avast should be completely uninstalled from your system. It's always a good practice to double-check your programs list or use a third-party uninstaller tool to confirm that Avast has been successfully removed. Additionally, you may want to consider installing an alternative antivirus software if you wish to continue protecting your computer.
