Canyon Passage (1946)

Director: Jacques Tourneur
Writers: Ernest Haycox (adapted from the Saturday Evening Post novel "Canyon Passage" Ernest Pascal (screenplay)
Stars: Dana Andrews, Brian Donlevy, Susan Hayward
Music by Frank Skinner

Portland, Oregon, 1856. Logan Stuart prati Lucy Overmire, zarucnicu svog prijatelja Georgea Camrosea, u udaljeno i izolirano šumsko naselje Jacksonville.

Dana Andrews is hard-working, no-nonsense Logan Stuart, a man determined to turn his freight line into a fortune in Oregon in the 1850s.

He has two problems, a friend named George Camrose (Brian Donlevy) with a weak spot for gambling that leads to bigger problems, and a cutthroat enemy named Honey Bragg (Ward Bond).

Women? Well, they complicate matters, too. There’s Caroline Marsh, who wants Stuart and is also sought after by young farmer Vane Blazier. There’s Marta Lestrade, who keeps fending off the advances of Camrose. And there’s flame-haired Lucy Overmire, who’s planning to marry Camrose, but wonders if he’ll ever measure up to Logan Stuart.

A Ticket to Tomahawk (1950) [720p]

A Ticket to Tomahawk is a 1950 American color western musical comedy film directed by Richard Sale and starring Dan Dailey and Anne Baxter. It was released by 20th Century Fox. Marilyn Monroe appeared in one of her earliest roles.

In 1876, Johnny Jameson (Dan Dailey), a "drummer" (traveling salesman), is the only passenger on the inaugural run of the Tomahawk and Western Railroad's narrow gauge train through the Colorado Rockies. During the ride, the conductor tells Johnny that certain people, stagecoach operators for example, would like to see the railroad's franchise fail. Soon afterwards, Dakota (Rory Calhoun), Trancas and Gila, who work for Colonel Dawson, the area stageline operator, cause a giant boulder to fall directly in the path of the train. Engineer Terence Sweeny (Walter Brennan) manages to stop the train in time, and he and the crew then disembark to move the rock.

Johnny decides to walk to the town of Epitaph and hitches a ride with Trancas and Gila. At the sheriff's office, when Johnny tries to report the train's delay to deputy Chuckity Jones (Charles Kemper), he is knocked out by Trancas. U.S. Marshal Kit Dodge, meanwhile, is in the room next door getting ready to welcome the train with help from his tomboyish, knife-wielding granddaughter Kit (Anne Baxter). As they leave for the depot they are surprised by Trancas and Gila. The marshal shoots Trancas but is wounded by Gila. Johnny comes round and Kit suspects that he may also be one of the gang. Despite Chuckity intervening on his behalf she orders him to leave town before sunset.

Kit is deputized as a U.S. Marshal by her grandfather, who now cannot travel because of his wound. She and an Indian companion named Pawnee (Chief Yowlachie) are assigned to escort the train to Tomahawk. Colonel Dawson orders Dakota to join the posse that is escorting the train and also an Indian scout, Black Wolf, to stir up the local Arapahos. Other gang members plot to blow up the engine during a night stop.

Only after he has bought his ticket out of town does Sweeny learn that there is no track laid for the next forty miles. He is informed by local railway entrepreneur, Bishop, that the rails were lost at sea en route from England. Bishop explains that as the train must reach Tomahawk to fulfill the requirements of the franchise contract, he has arranged for the engine car to be hauled by a team of mules. Another condition is that the train must reach Tomahawk by a rapidly approaching deadline with at least one paying passenger. Kit is not pleased to discover that the passenger assigned to her care is Sweeny. Johnny, now reluctant to travel on the train, is roped alongside the cab as the locomotive, minus its passenger car, sets off pulled by the mules and accompanied by assorted wagons. Chinese laundry man Long Time (Victor Sen Yung) joins the group with much delayed laundry for Tomahawk, together with Madame Adelaide (Connie Gilchrist) and her dancing girls, Annie, Ruby, Clara (Marilyn Monroe) and Julie. A musician with pianola accompanies them.

As planned, Dawson's men Bat, Charley and Fargo show up at a night stop claiming to be telegraph men who are there to repair lines cut by the Arapahos and Kit gives them permission to bunk in the camp. Gradually Kit softens her attitude towards Johnny. When all are asleep, Bat and Charley leave while Fargo tosses sticks of dynamite under the engine. Johnny, sleeping alongside the train, smells the lit fuse and alerts the others. Kit then cuts the fuse with a shot and disables Fargo but before he can talk Dakota kills him.

Some time later, a few miles beyond where the track restarts, Bat and Charley are placing dynamite charges on a trestle bridge. Johhny, Kit and Pawnee are scouting ahead and stop at the bridge. Bat and Charley consider shooting them but are then themselves attacked and killed by Indians and the dynamite is set off prematurely. Kit, Johnny and Pawnee are chased back to the train which is then attacked by the war party. Johnny identifies the Arapaho chief, Crooked Knife, having previously worked with him in a travelling western show. After the war party is driven off, Johnny volunteers to talk peace with him. He has learned that Long Time is carrying a load of fireworks and develops a plan. He is welcomed by Crooked Knife, who agrees to allow the train safe passage. However, some of the braves distrust Johnny and ask him to produce a sign that he is "big medicine." Johnny sets off a rocket, signaling Kit and Dakota to set off the rest of the fireworks on a nearby hill, and the Indians are impressed. As the railway bridge is now out, Kit intends to take the thirty-three-ton locomotive over a mountain by dismantling it and carrying it in sections. Dawson, meanwhile, thinks he has been double-crossed and shoots Black Wolf. He then rounds up his men for a final showdown.

After Kit discovers that Dakota has sabotaged a vital water tower, Dakota jumps aboard the train, slugs Johnny and at gunpoint makes the fireman start the engine rolling and takes off at high speed down the tracks. Kit jumps into the cabin but is knocked out by Dakota. Johnny revives and while he and Dakota fight on top of the cabin, Kit comes round and throws her knife at Dakota, causing him to fall into a ravine. Dawson and his gang then ambush the train but cannot catch up with it. However, they manage to shoot up the boiler and the train slows to a halt within sight of Tomahawk. A posse, headed by Marshall Dodge, rides out from the town and, together with the Araphoe, subdue Dawson's gang. Dawson flees but is pursued by Pawnee who throws a tomahawk at him which hits home off camera. As the train has stopped just short of its goal, Johnny talks the mayor of Tomahawk into extending the town limits, thereby fulfilling the requirements of the franchise. He does so, with seconds to spare. By now Kit has fallen in love with Johnny but he says he cannot be with her as he could not give up his travelling life. She grabs her knife and threatens to cripple him to stop his wandering ways. In the next scene it becomes apparent that Johnny is now working as a train conductor. As the train sets off he quickly limps after it, waving to his wife, Kit, and their five young daughters...

The year is 1876, and the Tomahawk and Western Railroad is scrambling to meet a deadline in order to secure a franchise to operate in Colorado. But the railroad faces a couple of major obstacles in reaching the town of Tomahawk by the deadline of noon Sept. 5: There are no tracks for a 40-mile stretch, and someone is hellbent on making sure the mission isn’t completed, probably the owners of a stage line likely to be put out of business if the rail line succeeds. To overcome the first obstacle, a team of mules is hitched to pull a train engine from Epitaph to Tomahawk. Making sure scoundrels don’t stop the engine becomes the responsibility of Kit Dodge Jr. (Anne Baxter), the sharp-shooting, knife-throwing, never-been-kissed granddaughter of Epitaph’s recently wounded marshal.Once she learns how to flirt, she finds two men to bat her eyes at: traveling salesman Johnny Behind the Deuces (Dan Dailey), who unwittingly becomes the railroad’s first passenger; and Dakota (Rory Calhoun), a henchman for the stage line who infiltrates the odd caravan bound for Tomahawk.

Man in the Saddle (1951)

Man in the Saddle is a 1951 Technicolor Western film directed by Andre DeToth starring Randolph Scott. The screenplay is based on the novel of the same name by Ernest Haycox.[2]

Man in the Saddle was the first of the many lucrative collaborations between its star Randolph Scott and producer Harry Joe Brown.[3]

The film's plot centers on a farmer (Scott) who turns to violence when a powerful and ruthless land baron (Knox) tries to take over his land. In the process he is caught between two women, the ambitious Laurie (Leslie) and the down-to-earth Nan (Drew). A high point in the film is a fierce fistfight between Scott and John Russell

Randolph Scott is Owen Merritt, a small rancher who loses his ambitious lover, Laurie Bidwell, to a larger rancher, Will Isham. Now that he’s got Laurie, the jealous Isham wants to run Merritt and the other small ranchers right out of the country and hires a fast gun, Fay Dutcher, to help him accomplish that mission. When one of his men is killed in a Dutcher-inspired stampede, Owen declares war on Isham and his ranchhands, figuring he might win Laurie back in the process. But he winds up injured and nursed to help by another small rancher with a pretty figure, Nan Melotte (Ellen Drew).Even she can’t sidetrack Merritt from his new obsession, making sure Isham and his henchmen loosen their grip on the countryside.

The Westerner (1940) [720p]

The Westerner (sh. Zapadnjak) je američki crno-bijeli vestern film snimljen 1940. u režiji Williama Wyler. Radnja se događa krajem 19. vijeka u gradiću Vinegaroon u državi Teksas, kojim vlada živopisni vlasnik saluna i samozvani sudac Roy Bean (čiji lik tumači Walter Brennan).

Gary Cooper plays Cole Harden, a cowboy hauled into Judge Roy Bean’s barroom court on a charge of stealing a horse.Bean’s a hanging judge, and Harden senses the end could be near. But he also notices the bar is plastered with photos of actress Lily Langtry. So he makes up a story about knowing Lily; he even says he has a lock of her hair. The tall tale saves him from the rope, and he gets a new friend to boot. But Harden soon learns he’s stepped into the middle of a war between the cattlemen — led by Bean — and the local homesteaders, who are fencing in part of the countryside, much to the ranchers’ dismay. One of those homesteaders is pretty Jane Ellen Mathews (Doris Davenport). Though her dreams of settling down and raising a family don’t quite match Harden’s dreams of living a free and easy life, he can’t help falling for the charming young lady. And though he lives the life of a cowboy, he does his best to convince Bean to make peace with the homesteaders.Just when he thinks all is well, Bean sends his henchmen to burn out the farmers. Their crop is ruined. Their homes are burned. Mary Ellen’s father is killed. And so Harden goes looking for Bean. And he knows just where to find him. Lily Lantry is playing in Fort Davis, and Judge Roy Bean has bought every ticket in the theater.

Little Big Man (1970)

Little Big Man (sh.

Predstavlja adaptaciju istoimenog romana Thomasa Bergera.

Dustin Hoffman is Jack Crabb, a 121-year-old man who tells the story of the Wild West as he knew it to an interviewer who wants to know about the Indian way of life.Jack’s story begins when he and his sister are the lone survivors of an Indian attack. They’re taken in by the Cheyenne. The sister runs off; Jack is left behind. From that point on, Jack bounces from the Indian way of life to the white man’s world depending on what he needs to do to survive. He goes through a gunfighter period, a religious period and spends time as a storekeeper, mule skinner and assistant to a snake oil salesman. And he spends a good deal of time with the Indians, learning from his adopted grandfather Old Lodge Skins (Chief Dan George) and experiencing his only happy family life with a young Indian widow named Sunshine (Aimee Eccles). But all the time, the Indian way of life is threatened, regardless of the promises of the white man.One of the main threats: the glory-seeking Gen. George Armstrong Custer (Richard Mulligan).

Drums Across the River (1954) [720p]

Audie Murphy plays Gary Brannon, who runs a freight business with his father Sam (Walter Brennan) in the town of Crown City, where businessmen are getting desperate. That’s because the mines in the area have played out, but there’s plenty of rich mineral deposits in nearby Ute land, if one’s willing to risk his or her life to start an Indian war.Frank Walker (Lyle Bettger) and his cronies are, and the Brannons wind up involved in their scheming. In Gary’s case, that’s first by choice. A drunken Ute warrior killed his mother; he has little used for Indians.Later it’s by force, because Walker quickly realizes that way to bend Gary to his will is to put his father in danger. And when it looks like all else has failed, Walker and his men — they include a vicious fast gun named Morgan (Hugh O’Brian) — fake a Ute attack on a stage to stir up hostilities all over again.

Ireland) i mnogo goniča stoke, te kreće na iscrpljujući put stotinama milja kroz divljinu...

John Wayne is Tom Dunson, a man who dreams of starting a cattle ranch in Texas and joins a wagon train bound for California. Leaving the girl he loves behind, he splits from the wagon train only to learn she’s been killed by Indians. The sole survivor is a teen named Matt Garth, who was off searching for his cow when the Indians attacked.Well, Dunson and partner Groot Nadine (Walter Brennan) take the young boy under their wings. And with Dunson’s bull, Matt’s cow and the courage to hold onto a large chunk of land north of the Red River, they spend 14 years building a cattle empire only to learn their vast herd is worth nothing in cash-poor, post-Civil-War Texas. With Matt (Montgomery Clift) back from the war, Dunson decides to risk everything he owns on a desperate cattle drive 1,000 miles to Missouri, through dry country and Indian territory, knowing bandits await at the Missouri border. But the hardships of the trail take a toll on his men. So do stories of the difficulty of reaching Missouri. And the lure of a rumored closer railroad stop in Abilene, Kansas. Determined to complete his mission, Dunson just pushes them harder, to the point of mutiny. When three men desert in the middle of the night, taking food and cartridges with them, Dunson sends fast gun Cherry Valance (John Ireland) to track them down. He kills one of the deserters and delivers the other two for punishment. Dunson decides the men should hang. And that’s when his adopted son decides things have gone far enough.Matt stands up to Dunson, takes the herd and heads off toward Abilene. But not before Dunson has issued a stern warning: that he’ll catch up, and that he’ll kill Matt when he does.En route to Abilene, Matt and his men ride to the rescue of a wagon train under attack. There he finds the welcoming arms of Tess Millay (Joanne Dru). Mirroring a decision Dunson made years earlier, Matt refuses to let Tess accompany him on the drive.Soon Dunson encounters the same wagon train. Tess tries to convince him to end his quest for vengeance. He won’t be deterred, but he does agree to take Tess with him.Meanwhile, Matt, Groot, Cherry and the herd have reached their destination. But all three know this saga isn’t over. There’s a showdown with Dunson that’s simply inevitable.

Audie Murphy plays a retired ranger named Logan Keliher who has settled down on a farm with his wife, Susan (Beverly Owen). Then old friend Sam Ward (Darren McGavin) and his gang show up and rob the local bank. Ward was once married to Susan himself before landing in prison. He wants her back.He also wants the son that Susan and Keliher have been raising together; a son named Sammy who’s never been told about his real father.Meanwhile, Audie winds up with the task of tracking down his former friend and the stolen money. And that also means dealing with a posse that would like to split the loot among themselves if they can only remove a few obstacles.
