Configure Samba

You can configure it from command line by using the command

gksu system-config-samba


Then configure the settings according to your need.You can also create a menu for samba in Applications->Accessories or a shortcut startup icon on taskbar by using Application Finder(search for “samba”,left click and drag it to task bar).Now,click on “+” then on Basic Tab and symbol to share some file and enter the details like Directory,share name,description and most important one access mode i.e visible or writable.Then click on access and Define who can access that file.(Every One or selected users only)

Basic web server- Ubuntu 10.10 Maverik Meerkat

We will show you how to create a basic web server. When I say basics, I mean that we will work only on the local environment, NO I will show in this video tutorial how to configure router, IP forwarding, .... we'll leave for another video. For this tutorial we are going to install the next pacages and dependencies:

• php5
• apache2
• php5-mysql

To install it we execute the next comand:

 sudo apt-get install php5 apache2 php5-mysql

Then install the package to the database server:

• mysql-server

sudo apt-get install mysql-server

We asked for the password you want to assign to the root user for the database server.

And finally the package for managing databases:

• phpmyadmin

sudo apt-get install phpmyadmin

We ask that we reconfigure server and choose "apache2" then asks the password for the database server (which is what we put in the mysql-server package) and finally we set the root password to access phpmyadmin.
Then we will check through a web browser http://localhost address and we should see "It works!"
Then go into phpmyadmin from "http://localhost/phpmyadmin" user "root" and password that you post.
