Can't create restore point: XP Sp3 - System Restore is on but you can't write description
Problem:
Found this on a friends PC when trying to go back to an earlier restore point and didn't find any.
Solution:
What did work was uninstalling IE8.
Windows search, system restore, and the rolled back to IE6 now work fine.
Problem:
Found this on a friends PC when trying to go back to an earlier restore point and didn't find any.
- Checked System Properties/System Restore - shows it's monitoring drive C (the only one)
- Performed ChkDsk & reboots
- Looked for, and found, System Volume Information, hover over shows this as empty
- Reinstalled System Restore by right click on c:\Windows\inf\sr.inf and selecting install
- Tried Safe Mode but Create Restore Point option is missing
- Tried reboot f8 Last Known Good, still the same
- Tried searching the Web but with no success except one referring to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \ System \ CurrentControlSet \ Services \ VxD \ VxDMon but this doesn't exist in this Registry!
- No relevant events in Event Log
