  11. #43 Uobičajeno Kill Bill: Vol. 1 (2003)

    Kill Bill: Vol. 1 (2003) - IMDb

The film opens with a shot of The Bride (Uma Thurman), covered in blood and gasping for breath. The unseen Bill (David Carradine) monologues briefly. As The Bride attempts to tell him “it’s your baby”, he shoots her in the side of the head.
In the next scene, The Bride arrives at the home of Vernita Green (Vivica A. Fox). Without saying a word, The Bride engages her in a vicious fight; however, she agrees to cease the hostilities when Vernita's four-year-old daughter arrives home. Through The Bride’s narration, we learn that the two women were acquainted four years ago (they were both assassins under the employ of Bill, although this is not made explicit here). Vernita apologizes to The Bride, but The Bride is unmoved, insisting that the two have “unfinished business” (what Vernita is apologizing for is not entirely clear at this point, although The Bride implies that it resulted in the deaths of a number of people close to her). They arrange to continue their fight later that evening, but before The Bride can depart, Vernita attempts to kill her with a gun hidden inside a cereal box. The Bride reacts instantly, throwing a knife that kills Vernita. As she removes the knife from Vernita's body, Vernita's daughter, Nikki, walks into the room. The Bride unapologetically assures the child that she will have a chance for revenge when she is older. Chronologically, this scene occurs after the remaining events of the first volume; Vernita is the second of The Bride’s revenge targets, O-Ren Ishii (see below) being the first.
The following scene takes place—"Four years and six months earlier in the city of El Paso, Texas". A small wedding chapel with a number of blood-stained bodies is being investigated by the police. One of these bodies is The Bride; she is wearing a wedding dress and quite heavily pregnant. She is examined by Earl McGraw and his son, Edgar McGraw, the former discovering that she is not in fact dead.
Soon after this, the one-eyed Elle Driver (Daryl Hannah) (a member of the Deadly Viper Assassination Squad: the group of assassins of which The Bride was once a member) enters the hospital where The Bride is lying comatose. She prepares to administer a lethal injection, but is interrupted by a phone call from Bill, who orders her to “abort the mission”. (During this phone conversation it is also made explicit that the Deadly Vipers were the perpetrators of the wedding chapel massacre.)
Four years later, The Bride awakens from her coma, finding herself in a hospital ward. She is horrified to discover that she is no longer pregnant, leading her to assume that her baby is dead. An orderly named Buck enters the room with one of his “customers” (he has been selling sexual access to her body while she has been comatose). The Bride kills both men, before taking the keys to Buck’s truck and escaping the hospital ward. Lying in the back of the truck, having been unable to move her legs since regaining consciousness, she orders herself to “wiggle your big toe”.
During this time her thoughts turn to those responsible for the massacre (“members all of the Deadly Viper Assassination Squad”), and in particular on her first revenge target, O-Ren Ishii (Lucy Liu), who, we learn, has become “Queen of the Tokyo Underworld” in the four-year interim. A short animated sequence details the early life of O-Ren.
After regaining full control of her lower body, The Bride travels to Okinawa to obtain a sword from Hattori Hanzō (Sonny Chiba), a renowned swordsmith who has retired to the life of a sushi chef. She asks Hanzō to make her a sword, which at first he refuses to do, but he then decides to break his oath to never make another sword when he correctly infers that her purpose is to wreak revenge on his former student: Bill. It takes a month for Hanzō to make the sword, and in that time The Bride follows his suggestion to practice.
The Bride then travels to Tokyo, where she confronts her first revenge target (O-Ren Ishii) at a night club called the "House of Blue Leaves". The Bride first severs the arm of O-Ren's “second lieutenant”, Sofie Fatale (Julie Dreyfus), who was also present at the wedding chapel massacre. She then kills all of O-Ren’s immediate guards, including her personal bodyguard, Gogo Yubari (Chiaki Kuriyama). O-Ren's army of henchmen, the Crazy 88, then arrive, and The Bride engages them in a lengthy fight, killing or seriously wounding all of them except one. She then duels O-Ren, and eventually kills her.
The Bride dumps the badly wounded Fatale at a hospital. Fatale later admits to Bill that—under threat of further injuries—she revealed to The Bride the locations of the remaining Deadly Vipers, and that The Bride is setting out to kill all of them. Bill then asks if The Bride knows that her daughter is still alive; something of which the audience has been unaware up to this point. This ends the first volume.

  15. #44 Uobičajeno Kill Bill: Vol. 2 (2004)

    Kill Bill: Vol. 2 (2004) - IMDb

    Disc I:

    Disc II:

The second volume begins with a depiction of the events leading up to the wedding chapel massacre. The Bride is at her wedding rehearsal, along with her groom-to-be, Tommy Plympton (Chris Nelson), and a number of others. Bill arrives at the chapel, much to The Bride’s surprise (with her asking: “How did you find me?”). Through the ensuing conversation it transpires that The Bride has decided to leave the life of an assassin (as well as Bill, her former lover), in order to settle down with her as-yet unborn daughter and soon-to-be husband. Shortly after this conversation, the Deadly Vipers enter the chapel (at the behest of Bill), opening fire on those assembled inside.
The next chapter is set over four years later. Bill has traveled to warn his brother Budd (Michael Madsen), another former Deadly Viper, that The Bride is coming to kill him, as he is third on her death list. Budd has put his assassin days behind him, living in a trailer and working as a bouncer at a local strip club (where he is treated poorly by the manager). The Bride arrives at Budd's trailer that night, but Budd preempts her attack, shooting her in the chest with rock salt and then injecting her with a sedative. Budd calls Elle and offers to sell her The Bride's Hanzō sword for $1 million; they arrange for her to come to Budd’s trailer the next morning. Later that night, Budd takes The Bride to a cemetery, seals her inside a coffin and buries her alive.
At this point there is a flashback to The Bride’s early training in China, when Bill takes her to the temple of the legendary martial arts master Pai Mei (Gordon Liu). Although Pai Mei expresses immediate dislike for her, over a period of brutal training she eventually wins his respect.
(Mentioned by Bill is Pai Mei’s Five Point Palm Exploding Heart Technique: “He hits you with his fingertips at five different pressure points on your body, and then lets you walk away. But once you’ve taken five steps your heart explodes in your body, and you fall to the floor, dead.” When asked whether Pai Mei taught him the technique, Bill replies: “He teaches no-one the Five Point Palm Exploding Heart Technique.”)
During The Bride’s training, particular emphasis is placed on her development of the ability to strike powerfully at an object positioned mere inches from her chest. In the present, The Bride calls on this ability to break out of the buried coffin, before digging her way up to the surface, thus escaping death.
The next morning, Elle arrives at Budd’s trailer—The Bride watches them from a nearby hilltop, unnoticed by the other two, who believe her to be dead. Elle brings with her a suitcase which Budd assumes contains payment for the sword. However, when Budd opens the suitcase, a black mamba hidden amongst the money bites him repeatedly. The venom kills him in a matter of minutes.
Elle receives a call from Bill, and she informs him that his brother, Budd, is dead. At this point, The Bride’s real name – Beatrix Kiddo – is finally revealed. As Elle goes to leave Budd’s trailer, she is attacked by Beatrix, and a furious fight ensues. Towards the end of the fight, it is revealed that Elle’s eye was plucked out by Pai Mei after she insulted him, and that she later killed him by poisoning his food. The fight ends with Beatrix plucking out Elle’s remaining eye, leaving her completely blind. Beatrix leaves Elle (writhing and screaming hysterically) in the trailer with the black mamba. Her fate is ambiguous.
After learning of Bill’s location from Esteban Vihaio (Michael Parks), a pimp who was one of Bill’s “father figures”, Beatrix arrives at Bill’s home. Here she is shocked to find B.B., her four-year old daughter, alive and well. The family spend the evening together peacefully. Later, once B.B. is asleep, Bill shoots Beatrix with a dart containing a truth serum. This is in order to guarantee honest answers from her in response to a number of questions he has.
A short flashback recalls the moment in which Beatrix finds out that she is pregnant. She is on an assignment at the time, and her target has sent an assassin of her own, Karen Kim, to kill Beatrix. Beatrix manages to convince Karen not to kill her (since she is pregnant), and promises that she will “go home”. Reflecting on these events, Beatrix reveals the reason that she ran away once finding out that she was pregnant: in order to protect her unborn daughter.
The couple’s conversation is brought to an end when Bill draws his sword to attack Beatrix. A brief fight results in Beatrix disabling Bill with the Five Point Palm Exploding Heart Technique (secretly taught to her by Pai Mei). Bill, defeated, says a tender farewell before rising to his feet and walking across the lawn; falling to the ground, dead, after five steps. Beatrix departs with B.B. in her arms.
The next day Beatrix is seen in a state of heightened emotion, while B.B. watches cartoons in the next room. Beatrix joins her daughter, and the film ends with a shot of the mother and daughter together.

  19. #45 Uobičajeno The American (2010)

    The American (2010) - IMDb

Jack (George Clooney), an assassin, is relaxing in a remote cabin in Sweden with his lover, Ingrid (Irina Björklund). As they walk on a frozen lake, Jack detects a sniper, who opens fire as the couple run to safety. Jack kills the sniper and then Ingrid, as well as another armed man on a nearby road. He then flees to Rome where he contacts an associate named Pavel. Pavel insists that Jack cannot stay in Rome and gives him the keys of a Fiat Tempra and sends him to Castelvecchio, a small town in the mountains of Abruzzo. Jack becomes nervous, and, disposing of the cell phone which Pavel had given him, flees to nearby Castel del Monte.
While he is hiding out there, Jack is befriended by an elderly priest, Father Benedetto (Paolo Bonacelli), who pressures him to seek absolution, something which Jack, now going by the name Edward and posing as a photographer, resists. Jack contacts Pavel, who sets him up with another job. He meets with a woman, Mathilde (Thekla Reuten), who wants him to build a custom-designed sniper rifle for an assassination. After a detailed discussion they agree that not only would the weapon have a sound suppressor and the magazine capacity of a submachine gun, but that it would also be compact enough to fit in a briefcase after being dismantled. Jack then begins meticulous work on the weapon - a Ruger Mini-14 semi or fully-automatic carbine with folding stock, which he has mail-ordered to him disguised as photographer's supplies. After accurizing this rifle and mounting a sound suppressor that Jack has made from materials he picked up from the auto repair shop of one of Father Benedetto's bastard sons, he balances the weapon so it can be fired accurately offhand. He also starts patronizing a prostitute, Clara (Violante Placido). Jack meets with Mathilde to test the weapon he has made. Mathilde is impressed by the accuracy and relative silence of the weapon. But she seems unfamiliar with the Ruger brand (American) and she asks that Jack make a few more alterations.
While having coffee one day, Jack bumps into Clara and a friend. Clara invites him on an actual date, and the two begin to deepen their relationship. Later that night, Jack realizes that he is being followed by the same people who tried to kill him in Sweden. An assassin follows him, but Jack notices, ambushes, and then kills the assassin as he flees. After the incident, Jack begins to become suspicious of Clara when he finds a gun in her purse and sees her meeting with some men. He takes her on a picnic, where he confronts her about her pistol. Clara explains that she has the gun because of a number of assaults on prostitutes which have occurred in the area, and that the men were cops investigating the case.
After talking to Pavel one last time, Jack agrees to deliver the weapon to Mathilde as his last job, but at the last moment he re-opens the briefcase and modifies the rifle one more time. At the drop off, Jack becomes suspicious that Mathilde plans to kill him when she excuses herself to go to the bathroom. Before anything can happen, a busload of school children arrives, giving Jack cover, and the two go their separate ways. While driving away, Mathilde is contacted by Pavel, who asks if she has killed Jack. She informs him no but insists that she is following Jack and will kill him.
Jack meets Clara in the crowd at a local religious procession. He asks her to go away with him and she joyfully agrees. Meanwhile, Mathilde is lurking on a nearby rooftop, with Jack in the sights of the weapon he has just delivered to her. However, when she tries to shoot at him, the weapon misfires from his earlier tampering with it, grievously wounding Mathilde. Jack, hearing the rifle shot, tells Clara to go to the place where they had picnicked and wait for him. He runs to and confronts Mathilde, dying on the pavement, and asks her who she works for. Before Mathilde dies from her wound, she answers Jack's question: "The same man as you... Jack." After she dies, Jack leaves.
As he leaves he notices he is being followed by Pavel, who had arrived earlier. Pavel opens fire, but Jack whips around and fatally shoots Pavel. As Jack drives desperately to meet Clara, he realizes blood is flowing freely from a bullet wound in his abdomen. As he arrives at the picnic spot, Clara smiles with joy, but Jack collapses across the steering wheel. The camera pans in the direction of some trees, where a small, white butterfly ascends toward the sky.

  23. #46 Uobičajeno Salt (2010)

    Salt (2010) - IMDb

CIA agent Evelyn Salt interrogates a Russian defector, Orlov, who tells her about "Day X", an operation organized by a powerful Russian spymaster since the Cold War, which will lead to the destruction of the United States; he claims that for this purpose an elite group of English speaking Russian agents were trained from birth during the 1970s, with an exceptionally rigorous conditioning that makes their loyalty "unbreakable" [sic]. Orlov mentions that at the funeral of the late Vice President in New York City, the visiting Russian President will be killed by Russian spy Evelyn Salt. Salt, shaken by the accusation, attempts to contact her husband Mike, a German arachnologist, fearing for his safety. Meanwhile, Orlov escapes, prompting Salt to escape — causing the CIA to think she is a spy. She flees to her apartment and finds her husband missing. With the CIA in pursuit, Salt grabs essentials, as well as a venomous spider, from her apartment and resumes her escape.
After barely escaping a highway pursuit, Salt takes a bus to New York City. The next morning, she sneaks into the heavily guarded St. Bartholomew's Church where the Vice President's funeral is being held and shoots the Russian President. She then encounters Peabody where she surrenders but escapes the NYPD after a wild chase.
A series of flashbacks show Salt growing up in the Soviet Union where Orlov taught her and many other children to obey him and ingratiate themselves to the American government. Then, when it came to Day X, he would command them to strike from various positions in the US. Salt meets Orlov who congratulates her on her killing the Russian President, but he questions her unauthorized decision to marry a foreigner who can be a distraction from her mission. He brings her to a river barge, where he tests her allegiance by having another agent kill Mike in front of her. Salt appears to be unaffected by this, thus passing Orlov's test. He then tells her Part Two of Day X, which would involve seizing the United States' stock of nuclear weapons. The enraged Salt, who had gone to Orlov especially in an attempt to save her husband, kills Orlov and everyone else on the barge in revenge: because of Mike, the most loyal Russian agent Salt turns against the system that brainwashed her. It is noted that thanks to the intervention of Mike, two years ago Salt was saved from a North Korean prison where she was tortured, when both the CIA and the KGB abandoned her as expendable. She then goes to the rendezvous set up by Orlov to meet a NATO mole.
The NATO mole and a disguised Salt go to the White House. Once inside, her NATO counterpart suddenly starts shooting at Secret Service agents and detonates a bomb. Because of this calculated provocation, the Secret Service, along with Winter, rush the President to the lower bunker of the White House. Meanwhile, the President, believing Russia is preparing a nuclear strike against the US, activates the launch codes from the nuclear football. Salt infiltrates the bunker and incapacitates the bodyguards. Winter picks up a gun and kills everyone except the president. After the president refuses to cooperate with the nuclear launch sequence, Winter shoots him and takes over the launch computers using the president's biometrics.
Winter explains to an astonished Salt that he was part of Orlov's plan all along. Winter then uses the nuclear football to start the sequence for launching nuclear missiles at Tehran and Mecca, to turn the Islamic world against the US. Salt asks Winter to let her in but before he opens the door, a fortuitously-timed news program reveals that the Russian President is not dead, but only placed in a near-death state from spider venom. Winter realizes that Salt is not on his side but she manages to break in, and after an intense struggle, she succeeds in knocking him down. Just after she manages to abort the nuclear missile launch set up by Winter, agents break in and arrest her. Winter goes free, but later Salt uses her chains to strangle him.
Salt is put on a helicopter with Peabody, and she explains everything to him. A skeptical Peabody eventually accepts she is telling the truth after he receives an SMS saying that Salt's fingerprints were found at the barge, confirming her betrayal of Orlov. Because there are other moles, Peabody allows her to escape so she can find and kill them. He uncuffs her and Salt jumps into the Potomac River, free once more.

  27. #47 Uobičajeno Step Up 2: The Streets (2008)

Step Up 2: The Streets (2008) - IMDb

The movie is set in Baltimore, Maryland. It follows Andie West (Briana Evigan) as she pursues her big dream of becoming a street dancer. Her mother died of cancer when Andie was 16; she now lives with her mother's best friend, Sarah (her guardian), but in reality, Andie feels like she does not belong anywhere. Although she is doing badly at school, it is her dream for dancing that brings something special into her life. She trains with her dance crew, the "410" (pronounced four-one-oh, as in the area code for Baltimore), to keep the title of the illegal competition (although dancing isn't illegal), 'The Streets.' Sarah is aware of the crime and harassment by the 410 and threatens to send Andie to live with her aunt in Texas if she doesn't change.
Tyler (Channing Tatum) meets her at the dance club, The Dragon. Tyler tries to persuade her to audition for the Maryland School of the Arts (MSA), where Andie has to compete for a place, thinking it will help her life as it did his. Tyler decides to battle her for it. Tyler wins the battle and the two head back to Andie's house where Tyler asks Sarah to let her join MSA. Sarah eventually agrees, and Tyler leaves Andie to audition at MSA while he goes on tour with Nora. Chase Collins (Robert Hoffman) persuades the school director (his brother) Blake (Will Kemp) to recruit Andie after seeing her audition. When Andie's studies come before the crew, the members are angry and decide to kick her out. Andie and Chase form a new crew with help from many people Chase knows at the school, all of not accepted as who they are, including Andie's new friend Moose (Adam G. Sevani). Chase has a copied key to the studio and the crew secretly practices their routine late at night when the school is empty. They perform at the local dance club, but are rejected and kicked out. Andie's friend Missy Serrano (Danielle Polanco) joins the crew after going out of the 410 following the event, as she is disgusted by the crowd's reaction. Missy tells the crew that the only way to enter The Streets is to first pull a prank and post it on the Internet to show that the crew is entering the competition. Wanting revenge for being humiliated before, Chase decides that their prank will be to make a fool out of Tuck, the leader of the 410.
The crew goes to a family barbecue at Missy's house, Sophie (MSA student who happens to have a crush on Chase) (Cassie Ventura), tags along. She begins to develop a crush on Moose after salsa dancing with him.
The 410 doesn't like the fact that they have a new crew to compete with so they warn Andie's group to stay out of The Streets or there will be consequences. When Tuck finds Chase, he assaults him for his prank and warns him to stay away from The Streets and Andie. Chase comes into school the next day badly bruised and hurt. On top of that, the dance studio has been trashed by the 410 the previous night. Director Collins decides that he will not allow anyone from the school to be involved in illegal competitions. He then decides to expel Andie from MSA because of her involvement with the Streets competition after a tip-off from Sophie. When asked if there were any other students involved, Andie does not tell him about her crew.
When Sarah hears the news of Andie's expulsion, Andie tries to explain, but Sarah refuses to listen, telling her that she has had enough of her behavior and that Andie now must go to live with her aunt in Texas. Just when Andie is packing her bags to leave, she receives a text message from Missy that The Streets is on that night - the same night as the MSA fundraiser. Along with Andie, her whole crew gets the text message. They decide to ditch the MSA fundraiser (except for Moose) and instead compete in The Streets. Sarah hears about what Andie did to protect her crew and is proud of her. She allows Andie to compete at The Streets with her crew. Chase also leaves the fundraiser hoping to win back Andie.
When Collins notices that his students are gone, he questions Sophie. Moose tells him that he is in the crew and where they are which Moose took both Collins and Sophie to the place, they are timely for the crew's performance. The director sees them and he realizes that The Streets he was hearing and thinking about, is in fact a legitimate form of artistic expression. He accepts Andie into MSA again and told Moose that he was in the wrong department.
To Moose's surprise, he gets kissed by Sophie. With Andie's crew being supportive friends and her education now secured, the film finds its optimistic ending - a passionate kiss between Andie and Chase.
