You can now select between two different versions of divx video: divx and divx Pro. divx remains free, as always, and you can download it for no cost below.

DivX Pro is the professional-level product, but personal users may purchase DivX Pro for $19.99. And if you`re willing to watch an occasional pop-up ad while you browse the web, you can download an ad-supported version of divx Pro for no cost at all. We wanted to find a way to make divx Pro available for no cost to all personal users, and this seemed like a good way to do it.

Ogg DirectShow Filters





With Ogg DirectShow Filters you can watch and if you want to, create, .ogm wrapped videos.
Using the OGM instead of the common AVI wrapper has several advantages, namely the fact that the audio and video should always, under virtually any circumstances, maintain synch.
The package contains the actual DirectShow filters as well as various tools for handling .ogm streams, such as Ogg Splitter and Ogg Multiplexer.

The Ogg Vorbis package consist of four filters :

- Ogg Splitter (splits Ogg files into the different Ogg streams)
- Ogg Multiplexer (does the mupltiplexing of several Ogg streams into a file)
- Vorbis Encoder (encodes PCM audio to vorbis. CBR and VBR modes)
- Vorbis Decoder (decodes vorbis audio to PCM or IEEE float)

Changes in Ogg DirectShow Filters 0.9.9.6 :

• Changed:
- devided OggDS.dll into VorbisDS.ax (Vorbis Encoder/Decoder) and OggDS.ax (Ogm Muxer/Splitter) to allow independent installation.
- reorganized the entire directory structure.
- set the version string to 0.9.9.6.
- several bugs caused by missing initialization fixed.
- all media types belonging to a certain group (e.g. video/audio/text) are now grouped correctly.
• Added:
- several languages added ... right-click the tray-icon.
- Ogg Splitter filter provides both media types for Vorbis (Vorbis Decoder) and Vorbis2 (CoreVorbis Decoder). If both are installed CoreVorbis is preferred.
- Ogm Muxer filter support muxing of SSA, ASS, UTF8 and USF subtitles. At the moment these subtitles can only be muxed with graphedit using the Subtitles filters from guliverkli. In addition, these subtitles can only be displayed using the VSFilter from guliverkli.
- Vorbis Decoder can ignore the POSTGAIN tag or manually set the gain by moving a slider.

Last but not least, to get advantage of these new features the "enable all streams" flag of Ogg Splitter has to be set.

Changes in Ogg DirectShow Filters 0.9.9.5 :

- Changed everything to Unicode(tm) to ensure that other languages are handled correctly.
- Support for Vorbisgain tags
- The OggSplitter supports now the IAMMediaContent interface to pass some tags like "TITLE" a.s.o. to the player.
- The tray icon shows now also the title instead of "Ogg DSF"

Important Note :

- There are some problems with Ogg DirectShow Filters 0.9.9.6! "...for some reason it doesn't play sound in the right channel of my system. I'm using a SoundBlaster Live! audiocard and the most recent drivers." (Thanks Sam)

Koepi's XviD Codec 1.2.2






XviD is a video codec just like DivX. Most new movies and videos are being encoded with XviD.
The XviD Codec is needed to play movies encoded by XviD. XviD is better than DivX.
XviD is the best currently available MPEG-4 video codec solution and additionally XviD is free software!

Nic's XviD Codec





XviD is a very popular codec these days, and is used often. Modern builds - like Nic's XviD Codec - can also play back that various DivX encoded files, so it's a good one to install first.

Ligos Indeo Codec





Video codecs originally developed by Intel, but later taken over by Ligos. Used widely throughout many years. Latests versions provide good picture quality and many different bit rates.
Enhancements to Indeo video version 5.11 include the following :

- A new wavelet compression algorithm that greatly improves visual quality.
- Better compression at all levels of video quality than previous generation codecs.
- Playback performance enhancements for Pentium II processor, including smoother, interpolated "zoom by 2" playback on processors with MMX technology.
- Progressive Download, a feature enabled in Microsoft DirectShow architecture and supported by Internet Explorer 4.0 (or higher) browser, which allows high-quality scalable video for the Internet and intranets.
- Indeo video version 5.11 supports encoding with Microsoft DirectShow.

Features of Indeo Audio 2.5 :

Indeo audio 2.5 is the primary audio compression codec used by the Indeo Video 5 Progressive Download Publisher. This release includes the following features:
- 8:1 Compression
- Indeo audio compresses 16-bit raw PCM audio by a factor of eight. For example, a one-second CD-quality audio (16-bit PCM, 44.1 kHz sample rate, stereo) clip requires 176,400 bytes of storage. After compression, it requires 22,050 bytes of storage.
- Support for Standard Multimedia Sample Rates. Sample rates of 8,000 Hz, 11025 Hz, 22050 Hz, and 44,100 Hz are supported. It is possible to convert to a lower sample rate while compressing an audio clip with Indeo audio. For example, the one-second CD-quality audio clip mentioned above could be converted to 8,000 Hz sample rate during compression. In this case the compressed clip would require 4,000 bytes of storage. Note, however, that decreasing the sample rate can dramatically reduce the audio quality.
- Support for Stereo and Mono. Both stereo (two channel) and mono (one channel) compression and playback are supported.
Mono requires half the storage space of stereo. For example, if the one-second CD-quality stereo audio clip mentioned above is compressed as mono at 8,000 Hz sample rate, the resulting compressed audio clip would require only 2,000 bytes of storage! However, note that compressing stereo audio as mono can dramatically reduce the audio quality.

LAME DirectShow Filter





This is a Microsoft DirectShow wrapper filter for LAME library. It adds DirectShow interface to the library and two property pages so you can tune some encoding parameters.
Includes batch files for Registering/Unregistering the LAME DirectShow filter.

How to install/uninstall LAME DirectShow Filter :

- To install: copy the "lame.ax" file in C:\WINDOWS\system32 and run the batch file ("RegLAME_DS.bat").
- To uninstall: just run the "UnRegLAME_DS.bat" file and remove "lame.ax" from "system32" folder.

LAME MP3 Encoder






LAME MP3 Encoder is the best mp3 encoder and is available for free! LAME originally stood for LAME A in't an M p3 E ncoder. LAME is an educational tool to be used for learning about MP3 encoding.
You can use the LAME executable with LameXP or RazorLAME interface or you can use the DLL with another software (AudioGrabber, CDEx etc). Some people prefer the combination CDEx or AudioGrabber + LAME DLL (see CD Ripping / Encoding guide). In archive are included both: exe and DLL files.

Changes in LAME MP3 Encoder 3.98.2:

• LAME 3.98.2 release is a maintenance release over 3.98.
- build system related: some fixes for mp3rtp and abx tools
- encoder padding values were not correct when resampling was involved
- frequency filtering API was broken; in case you want to use your own higher quality filtering method, it is now possible again to disable LAME buildin filters
- ID3 tagging:
--id3v1-only switch did not work anymore, fixed
--tg improved, now it matches more often one of the ID3v1 genres, even when small spelling errors are involved
--add-id3v2-size is a new switch, it allows to define your own padding of n bytes.
NOTE: Version 3.98.1 contains a bug that will let it crash when encoding CBR/ABR or with old VBR at setting q0, q1 or q2!

Important Note :

- LAME MP3 Encoder 3.90.3 is gone forever! It's no longer being recommended as preferred version - LAME MP3 Encoder 3.98 took its place.
