Scream - still screaming_this side up
20-08-2010 18:41
Scream was formed in Northern Virginia in 1981 by singer Peter Stahl, his brother Franz Stahl on guitar, bassist Skeeter Thompson and drummer Kent Stax. They are considered one of the benchmark bands in the history of the Washington, D.C. hardcore music movement. Along with bands such as Minor Threat and Government Issue, Scream ultimately merged the attributes of the movement, which were blinding speed, heavy political and social connotations in the lyrics, unpretentiousness of attitude, and shunning of commercialism. Their music is faithful to the roots of rock, but spun itself into other genres by employing sounds that predate the raunchiness of grunge, while saluting reggae and speed metal. Scream hated the classification of bands into certain types and considered what they played as simply 'music.' Recording their music in the basement of the now legendary Inner Ear Studios in Arlington, VA, Scream became the first band on the Dischord label to release a whole album, Still Screaming, as opposed to singles or 12 inch EPs. Like the world-renowned hardcore band Bad Brains, they could play clearly at breakneck speed, but also played mid-tempo songs like "American Justice" and "Hygiene," which were metal-tinged reggae.

The teen idles - minor disturbance
20-08-2010 18:42
The Teen Idles were a hardcore punk band that existed from September 1979 to November 1980. Jeff Nelson and Ian MacKaye formed the band as well as Dischord Records, revolutionizing the Washington DC music scene and setting the stage for the formation of Minor Threat and the inadvertent development of the straight edge movement. The Teen Idles were the first band on Dischord Records.
Minor Disturbance was the debut (and only) release by DC hardcore punk pioneers The Teen Idles. The 8-track EP is valued by hardcore punk fans, especially by fans of Minor Threat, which evolved out of this group.

State of alert - no policy
20-08-2010 18:43
State of Alert (or S.O.A.) was a hardcore punk group from Washington, D.C. fronted by Henry Garfield, who would later rise to fame as Henry Rollins. They formed in October 1980, and disbanded in July 1981 [1] and released No Policy on Dischord Records. They are sometimes regarded as one of the earliest groups playing what would be dubbed hardcore punk. They released a ten song 7" EP titled No Policy and contributed three songs to the compilation Flex Your Head, both on Dischord. The EP was financed by Henry since Dischord wanted to afford releasing the first Minor Threat 7" as well.

Government issue - legless bull
20-08-2010 18:44
Government Issue (often just GI) was an American hardcore punk band (although some people consider them straight edge due to singer John Stabb's abstinance from drugs and alcohol during his time with the band) originating from the Washington, D.C. scene, formed in 1980 and were on Dischord Records. Many early songs were straightforward hardcore, clocking in at under the one minute mark, but they later progressed into a more melodic song-focused outfit (citing The Damned as key to gaining this catchy sound) and often with lyrics critical of the short-sighted behavior of the scene they aided in creating.
Here we go now, the new Dischord release, ten tear-it-up thra
ditties on a 7" 45. GOVERNMENT ISSUE are John Stabb- vocals, John Barry- guitar, Brian Gay- bass and Mark Alberstadt- drums. If you enjoy Minor Threat and SOA, then buy this today. Best songs are "Religous Ripoff", "Rock-n-roll ~lol~", "Sheer Terror" and "Cowboy Fashion". Dischord you have never let us down!

MINOR THREAT - First two 7"'s LP
20-08-2010 18:46
Minor Threat was a hardcore punk band from Washington DC from the 1980s. While the band was short-lived, it had a strong influence on the hardcore punk music scene in the United States. Minor Threat's song "Straight Edge" was the basis for the Straight edge movement, though the band has had no involvement with the movement itself. Critics have called Minor Threat's music "iconic," and have noted that their "groundbreaking" music "has held up better than [that of] most of their contemporaries."
Along with the fellow Washington DC hardcore band Bad Brains, Minor Threat set the standard for many hardcore punk bands in the 1980s and 1990s. They produced short, often astonishingly fast songs, eventually with high production quality, which at the time was lacking in most punk and alternative rock.
First two 7"s on a 12", also known as the Minor Threat LP, was a combination of punk group Minor Threat's first two EPs, Minor Threat (originally released June 1981) and In My Eyes (originally released December 1981). It had the same cover as their first release, an image which has become an iconic image in punk culture. "Straight Edge," a song on the first EP, inadvertently inspired the straight edge movement. The song seemed to be a call for abstinence from drugs and alcohol — a new thing in rock music, which initially found a small, but dedicated following. "In My Eyes" is an anti-smoking, anti-peer pressure song which has been covered by such bands as Rage Against the Machine and UK straight edge band Admit You're ~Oh Deficate!~. This song, along with "Straight Edge" and "Out of Step", helped to solidify views of Minor Threat as a band with an anti-drug platform.

Dc youth brigade - possible (ep)
20-08-2010 18:47
After the split of The Teen Idles and The Untouchables in 1980, Nathan Strejcek and Danny Ingram formed Youth Brigade (not to be confused with the band of the same name from Los Angeles). After playing with a few different guitar and bass players, they finally settled on Bert Quieros (also of The Untouchables) and Tom Clinton on guitar. They played their first show in Washington, DC in March of 1981 at a restaurant called Food for Thought, and along with Minor Threat opened for Black Flag at the 9:30 club on that band's first trip to the east coast. At the end of their run Youth Brigade released the Possible E.P.. The title was both a pointed and
-in-cheek reference to one of the first Dischord ads, where, in a list of future releases, the label mentioned a "Possible E.P." by Youth Brigade.
